In the beginning, after being influenced by the shadows she saw in the grasses of trees She worked over a period of months to develop a technique which does not portray the subject in a 2-dimensional image. The image has been transformed to its own reproduction with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective when working with living things or objects that can be perishable like people or fruits. The ephemeral nature of her painting style is evident and what survives in Alexa Meade's work is the photograph. Because the photography and painting methods are closely coordinated it creates the trompe-l'oeil effect that creates the illusion of 3D appears only at specific places, for example the region around the eyes and the hair.
